kitty kisses, songs, and sunshine

When Pita woke up this morning she saw our cat Izzy in the hall and started calling to him. He sometimes rubs against her feet when she's in her highchair, and we tell her Izzy's kissing her toes. So this morning she wanted him to do that and she was calling to him "Izzy kiss toes". It was pretty cute. Celia relaxed in her chair and watched a little Sesame Street while I had breakfast. Then she wanted to sit with me on the couch, so we had some good snuggle time. And read books on the stairs.

We played around the house for a while and went to music class. Every week, Celia spends the first half of class participating pretty well and staying near me. She doesn't sing the songs (though she's been known to break into song in plenty of other places, like in the grocery store, at the top of her lungs...) but makes comments about them and listens. Then, about halfway through the class she turns into the class clown. Give her an inch and she'll take a mile. When a dancing song comes on, she runs wild laughing and screeching around the room. Today she had two older boys following her around, eager to join in her crazy behavior. When it was time to sit down again, she plopped herself right in the middle of the circle, and one of the boys went and sat next to her! She's really already very popular with boys, although I'm not sure if it's for the right reasons...

I got a lot done during nap time today: a load of laundry, prepped dinner, made another double batch of spaghetti sauce to freeze, and also a big batch of split pea soup to freeze.

Then I finalized our meal plan through next week, went through the toys I'm bringing back to work, and took a peek at my caseload to get some paperwork organized. That only took about an hour so I still had time for a nice big chunk of leftover cake before Pita woke up.

This is where the picture of the cake would have gone, if I hadn't eaten it already.

This afternoon we ran a couple of errands and then played outside. It finally stopped raining and was beautiful today. Celia went in the sandbox and played in the yard. Oh, and lest you conclude from the title of this post that the day was all puppies and rainbows: the grocery store was crowded and took forever, we had some late afternoon meltdowns, and there was a sand dumping incident in the kitchen that required me to vacuum while cooking dinner and wrangling a toddler. There you go. My life is far from perfect.

Tomorrow's the last official day of summer vacation. Then a busy weekend and back to work.

  1. Those late afternoon meltdowns are the best, aren't they!? Ah, part of parenting, right? The rest sounds great!
