friday's stuff

It's been cloudy and raining all week and we are ready for some nicer weather! I was determined to keep us busy today, so we wouldn't go stir crazy and Celia would be in a good mood. The more attention she gets and the busier I keep her, the fewer toddler meltdowns we have. So, she had a nice long bath this morning and had a great time playing in the water, we went to music class, stopped to run an errand, and that took up the whole morning. When we got home Pita had a really good lunch, and we played and read books until nap time. Luckily she is also taking a good nap right now. My sciatic nerve is bothering me (stupid pregnancy! It seems too early for aches and pains...) so I've been looking forward to sitting with a heating pad.

So, Celia has a new habit that we're not crazy about, and I'm wondering if it's a sign that she's ready to potty train. It's definitely a sign that WE are ready for her to potty train, if the alternative is to let this continue! She has been sticking her hand down the back of her diaper, including when she has poop in her diaper. And last Saturday we put her down for a nap and found her later with her diaper off and poop everywhere. She has never done anything like this before, and now I'm scared to leave her alone when I think she might have a dirty diaper or if I think she has to go. She doesn't do it for attention or to misbehave. I don't know if she's just curious or what. I think she would tell me if she didn't like having a dirty diaper. That part doesn't seem to bother her, although she is aware of it.

No news on the new house yet. We had a thorough inspection of the attic mold and ventilation issues throughout the house. There is a pretty serious ventilation problem where soot from the furnace is being brought up through the house (obviously a health concern), and the attic isn't properly ventilated. The whole house is also too humid, which has lead to the mold and some rotting of molding on the exterior of the house. On top of all that, the radon level is very high. It's still a really nice house and everything can be fixed, but of course it would be at a significant cost. Today we sent the sellers all of our inspection reports and a request that they take care of the three main problems. We'll see what happens... We think they are cheap, so I doubt they'll just pay for it all. Hopefully we can get them to take care of enough that we can still afford to buy the house. Otherwise, we'll have lost all the money we paid for inspections and will be at square one for finding a house. We still want the house, but these things are serious health concerns and have to be taken care of before I would move in with a toddler and a baby in my belly.

Off to do some cleaning and laundry since we're showing the condo tomorrow morning...
