Happy New Year!

1) Over the weekend we went to Panera for a morning snack. Next to us was a family with a two-year-old, and there was another little girl just days apart from Celia in age. It was like a toddler social hour. There was a rough start, though. The little girl sitting across from us was talking to her mother about seeing Celia and was calling her a baby (in her defense, Celia is small and babyish looking for her age). Anyway, Celia overheard and did not appreciate that. She took to glaring at the little girl and exclaiming "I NOT a baby!" Ha!

Angry Pita
Luckily the animosity didn't last long. Before we knew it the girls were grinning away at each other and talking.

Friendly Pita
Then Celia insisted on Chris coming with her so she could walk around the restaurant and say hi to everyone. Here she is greeting the other little girl her age.

Pita was thrilled later when we went next door to the bookstore and all her new friends were there playing in the kids' section! Before long she was sitting with the two other little girls, playing, chatting away, and looking at books together.

2) We took our second annual family pictures yesterday. Luckily we have the equipment to do it ourselves. Here are some of our favorites.

3) My Mommy gave me a pressure cooker for Christmas. I'm very excited about it. Tonight I made baked beans in it. A recipe that would have taken hours in a regular pot or slow cooker took 40 minutes. I'm excited to try more things in it.

4) We were listening to music in the car the other day and one of Celia's favorite songs came on. She got very excited and exclaimed "I happy!" What a sweet little monkey. The littlest things make her so very happy.

She was also insisting on wearing her hat in the car.
"Do you want to take your hat off, Pita?" "No."
5) Blub gave me an Arbonne gift set for Christmas because one of his co-workers sells Arbonne. I really like it, but it's way too expensive to make into a habit.

6) Scary new development: Pita can launch herself over the railing to get out of her crib. I had seen her get close once before, but on Saturday morning I could tell she was about to do it and had her show me so I'd know whether or not to worry. I had to catch her because the crib is way too high for her to safely get down. I don't think she would try it without me there, but now we really can't leave her unattended when she's awake and making noise at night.

7) Which of course leads to the question of when to move her to a bed. We'd rather wait until she's closer to three, but when we do put her in a bed it will be a trundle. She can sleep in the trundle part, lower to the ground, until she's ready to move up into the bed. Future kids can also use the trundle part as their toddler beds, and some day it will become an extra bed for guests.

I'm sure Pita would love the idea of sleeping in a bed, but not so sure how much sleeping she'd do in it!

8) I cut my hair on Friday. When it gets to this length I can't justify paying $40 for a haircut when I can do it myself. It's looking pretty good if I do say so myself.

9) Today is our first day back at work after vacation. Celia is ready to see her friends at daycare. I can't say that Blub and I are necessarily happy about it...

10) Outfit of the Week, reminiscent of hip little old lady:

  3. oh how adorable!! What cute pictures :) We always moved out babies into beds when they could climb out of their cribs. Staying in their big kids beds is a discipline issue for the first few weeks, but after that it's not a big deal.

  5. great family photos!!!

hadley calls all kids 2 and under "baby"... it must be universal baby talk.

i started setting up the big girl room when hadley threatened to jump out of the crib, and now that it is ready for her, she is content in her crib again. good luck!!

  6. Thanks for your recent comments on my blog! I had to laugh about the baby thing, because just tonight we were shopping at Target and some little girl called Ann Peyton a baby. My mom, who was with us, said to the little girl, "She's really not a baby, she's just very small for her age. She's almost two". Hilare.

Also, I have that apron from Anthro and it's one of my faves. I acquired an extensive apron collection in hopes it would motivate me to cook. That was a fail.

You'll have to let ME know about the big girl bed. The trundle is such a good idea!

  7. I love the response she gave to the other little girl! In her head? She IS a big girl all right!
The pictures look great. My boys both crawled out of their beds by 16 months, so we did the trundle too. It is much more comfortable to have them close to the floor for a bit.
