monday miscellany

Miscellany Monday time! Here are ten things going on in my head and in our lives.

1. This week I go back to work. So far I just feel disorganized and overwhelmed. I'm really not disorganized at all- it just feels that way when my schedule isn't finalized and the school year hasn't gotten going yet.

2. Last week I was driving Celia home from daycare, and we passed the house where I had that
altercation with a mean lady and her mean dog. There was a truck parked in front of the house, and I didn't realize until we were passing it that it was a  septic pumper truck. Great, just great. And by great, I mean absolutely horrifying and sickeningly stinky. So now not only have I had to argue with this woman and be assaulted by her dog. I've also had to smell her you-know-what.

3. Celia spent the rest of that day and the next talking about the "poop truck".

4. I think there's a bird nest somewhere on our roof. When we're on the deck there are loud bird noises and suddenly birds will be flying really close to our heads. I've also found a couple of feathers. A little creepy, I think.

5. We started talking about Celia's Halloween costume. Still not sure what it will be, but we're going to make it ourselves so it could take some time. Have to start early! She's old enough this year that she'll like walking around and seeing other kids in costumes.

6. I need to get better at taking vitamins. I'm not consistent. The problem is that multi-vitamins make me nauseous and sometimes I even throw up if I don't take them immediately after eating a fairly large meal. It also has to be in the morning. If I take it after lunch or dinner I get sick no matter what. Maybe I should try a chewable vitamin for kids. Has anyone had this problem? Can you recommend a vitamin?

7. On Friday I posted about making my first Green Monster. I was so pleasantly surprised by it that I made one again on Saturday, and am having more today. Love them!

8. I've been fretting about whether to send Celia's snacks and lunches to daycare this year. She could eat whatever they serve the other kids. However, it's not the most nutritious food. It seems to be a lot of processed stuff that I would never give her at home. I thought I could handle letting her eat with the other kids since it's just three days out of the week, but last night I was thinking (again) about the junk she'd be eating and just couldn't let that happen. So, today she brought a bag full of lunch and snacks to daycare.

9. It appears that Celia's little kitty will be making more blog appearances. Last week, Kitty used the potty. Last night I heard Celia say "No! No chair! Sit, minute." I rounded the kitchen island to find her putting poor Kitty in a time out.

10. Last night we watched Food, Inc. Great movie. Although I cried several times. And it renewed my conviction that eating animal products (as well as GMO and processed food products) is not something I want to do. I wish everyone knew where their food really came from, and not just from hearing about it but from seeing it with their own eyes. The issues surrounding the food industry are not just about how animals are treated, either. We're talking about sickening politics, business practices, human conditions and quality of life, human health, and environmental costs.

Have a good week, all!

  1. Ha! HA! Kitty on time out! Kids are so cute! That's too bad about that lady and the dog and the stinky stuff.

I am with you with the processed foods. I don't like giving that stuff to our angels. I try and avoid it as much as possible.

    Thanks for sharing your randomness

  3. It's amazing how kids copy us. That's so cute about the kitty time out. Sorry about the meany neighbor lady and her stench. blah!

I highly recommend Gentle Care Formula for a multi-vitamin at this link- http://www.drfuhrman.com/shop/supplements.aspx
Dr. Fuhrman explains what to look for in a vitamin and what is in or not in his.

I've also tried his DHA oil and it was good, especially for the little ones since it's in liquid form and you can add to water or juice. I actually use Deva brand Omega-3 from Algae oil and I buy it on http://www.vitacost.com/. I actually by my shampoo and some other things from Vitacost because they have great prices and a flat shipping fee. They also ship quickly.
