autumn begins

Autumn is here. Now comes the time of year when we, and the earth, ready ourselves to snuggle in for the winter.

We eat our last al fresco meals and start to prepare warmer, heartier ones indoors.

Tiny elephant legs take their last run around the yard, then get covered up in overalls.

Bare footsies will have to wear socks.

Summer's blossoms fade and fall away,

but new ones will still appear before winter sets in.

Apples are picked, pumpkins will be carved. Acorns are collected by some.

The colder air turns green leaves

into all shades of warm.

The days grow shorter. Sunshine is weaker. It's time to come inside to a warm blanket and a cup of tea.

Soon we'll look out our windows and see trick-or-treaters walking by. We'll gather for holidays. Before I know it, snow will be falling outside my picture window. I'll bundle Celia up, and we'll go out to play in a world transformed.

Happy Autumn!
