5 years

Today Celia is 5 years old. What a big birthday. It's the first year she has been really excited about her birthday. It's also just a big milestone. It seems as if five is when a transition starts to happen, between little kid and big kid. We register for kindergarten next month.

(As a side note- I made a "healthy" cake for tonight. Low sugar, whole grain gluten free, chocolate frosting made out of sweet potatoes. I was mentioning how much the kids loved the healthy cake, and Chris said "Well, they don't know any better." Haha. Funny but true. Healthier versions of things are just normal to them. They don't need the junky stuff.)

Oh, Celia. Sweetie Girl. Tiny Pepita. You are the most beautiful little girl, inside and out. Your mannerisms and expressions, the way you speak, the thoughts and ideas you have... Your empathy, concern, and consideration for others. Your thankfulness. You are so thankful for all that you have, and so full of love for your family. It isn't rare for you to hug me and say, "Mommy, I love you so much." It isn't rare for you to name all of our family members, talking about how you love them all. The way you seek to understand other people and find good in them. Your amazing imagination and creativity. Your enthusiasm for everything you do, and everything you encounter. I could just admire you all day long.

Celia had a good day today. She was excited to go to school on her birthday. Chris took her for a doughnut before school. She had a good school day, and then we went home and had pizza and cake. Pita opened her presents from us- a Calico Critters carriage with a couple of critters, a United States map puzzle, and her own Bilibo. Henry already has one, and they have both done so much with it. (As a side note, Henry insisted that it was also his birthday today. He's been feeling under the weather, and he's a two-year-old. We just went with it.)

Celia told me tonight that she wants to be five forever. So it must have been a pretty good day if she's made that decision already. And if she really wants to be five forever, that's okay with me.

  1. 5 is such a wonderful age. They are all fun, but you are right, it really is a transition age. What you wrote about her is so beautiful. What a sweet girl you have. Happy Birthday Celia.
