monday miscellany

1) Both kids have colds, but we still had a pretty good weekend. I really, really, really hope this is the end of illnesses for the winter.

Saturday morning, I went for a haircut and Chris took the kids to Barnes and Noble. I ended up with about a half hour at home by myself and it was amazing how much I got done in an empty house. I worked on laundry, cleaned up the kitchen, decluttered a little and cleaned two bathrooms. We might make it a regular thing that one of us takes the kids out so the other can get stuff done. Then we were home for the rest of the day. Henry didn't sleep well on Saturday night because of his cold. I was up with him a couple times and needed to sleep more in the morning. Chris got up with him on Sunday morning and ended up taking him in the car to sleep longer. Henry was much happier after another hour of sleep. We went out for lunch at Panera just to get out of the house. With both kids sick, we didn't want to do too much. Then Chris and I got coffee and we went to get a couple things I forgot I needed from the grocery next door. Henry was quite a charmer, walking all around and saying hi to everyone he saw. He now calls all men "dada", and at times he would be calling "Dada! Dada! Hi!", trying to get someone's attention. The rest of the day we played at home. The kids were very good despite their colds.

2) We are getting another snow storm this week and I am not happy. Just as we've gotten down to only an inch or two left in our yard.

3) The little people have taken to sitting at the desk together. Celia draws with her markers, and Henry pretends to draw with markers that still have their caps on. He thinks markers with caps still on are fantastic. I'm not sure how long that will last, but I'm going with it.

4) I've had our set of Christmas mugs out since November and finally put them away. I wanted some larger mugs to replace them and found a few last week. I'm hoping to find another like this one. My favorite color.

5) Lately Celia always wants me to play in her room with her during Henry's naps. This weekend we spent both of his nap times in her room. We got her dollhouse all set up and added a few things I've had in storage.

I tried to talk her out of eating snack in her bed...

6) Henry really likes wearing hats. Here he got into the coat closet and tried on several.

8)

She loves her Daddy. Look at that expression.
9) We've burned through my favorite candle and I just ordered a few on sale from Bath and Body Works. I hope they're good. We're getting Cinnamon Clove, Green Grass, and Winter. Have you guys tried any of these?

10) We had quite a lot of St. Patrick's Day fun this year. Celia and I made a leprechaun house and almost every day she would find crumbs of food, leprechaun dust, or leprechaun footprints around. We all wore green yesterday and spent the weekend listening to traditional Irish music on cable, and singing and dancing. We are not normally big on every little holiday, but it's fun with kids.

  1. I think that is a great idea taking turns to get some things accomplished. I love that dollhouse and I am sure I would LOVE the green grass scent candle.
