our week

After being pretty busy over the last couple weeks, I was looking forward to a normal, quiet week. At least, as normal and quiet as it can get with a new baby and a 3-year-old. Yesterday it was just me and the little ones all day. Celia has her moments, but overall she has adjusted well to Henry being part of the family at this point. I do have to make sure I give her as much attention as I can. Yesterday morning we went to the post office to buy stamps and mail thank you notes from Celia's party. Celia was funny during the thank you note process, because she didn't quite understand the concept of the thank you notes. She has trouble understanding the difference between receiving mail and sending mail to other people. It's kind of abstract and confusing for her. So I don't think she understood that we were writing notes to the people from her party, but I explained it to her and she wrote her name on each note. She does, however, really like the concept of mail and is fascinated with the post office and mail carriers. She was so excited to put the envelopes through the letter slot!

After that I had been planning to go to the bookstore just so Celia could play there, but I had noticed that her favorite pair of shoes might be getting too small. Her other pairs have gotten really worn out and gross looking too, so we went to the shoe store. We got three new pairs of shoes. I started with two, but there was a third pair on clearance that was a great deal and the shoes were really cute. Celia had a great time at the shoe store. The woman helping us said she had never seen a kid have so much fun with shoe shopping- ha!

After that Celia wanted to go home, so we went home and played, and had lunch. It was a warm and sunny day and Pita said she wanted to have a picnic. It wasn't that warm, but I told her we could have a picnic inside. She had lunch while Henry watched, and then I found her lounging with my cell phone.

Kids these days...
Celia had a good nap while I played with Henry, and he had a short nap too. Then it was still nice out, so we went for a walk! I can't wait for spring when we can do this all the time. Henry was pretty fussy in the late afternoon and before dinner. I think it's because I couldn't get him to have a good nap. It's getting harder to get him to sleep well for naps, for some reason. I was happy when Chris finally got home and could help a little.

This morning Henry and I took Celia to daycare, along with some cupcakes for her birthday. I have never seen those kids so excited. Apparently cupcakes are a big deal! Since then, Henry and I have been hanging out all day. During his naps I've been making and freezing a big batch of vegan bolognese sauce (which, by the way, made the house smell amazing- any sauce with red wine in it has me at first sniff) and doing laundry. I'm trying to get Henry to nap in his crib, but can't get more than 30 or 40 minutes. Today I thought he was still sleeping, and I looked on the monitor and saw him wide awake looking at the animals on his wall. The only times I can get long naps out of him are when we go somewhere in the car. He's so much happier when he has good, long naps. At least nights are still going pretty well.

Wide awake, looking at the animals on his wall. Maybe I need to make his room less interesting?? The kid's too gosh darn interested in everything! Already too smart for his britches.
Henry is having longer awake periods and is starting to like new things. I've started reading to him and he loves looking at simple colorful picture books. He studies the pages and smiles. He is tolerating tummy time a little more, but doesn't last long. He can lift his head and shoulders up. And today he was sitting in his chair kicking his feet and watching a hanging toy move when he kicked it. I'm sure he wasn't kicking it on purpose, but he liked seeing it move whenever he did.

Henry is sleeping now, and then we'll go get cat food at the vet and pick up Celia. And... I hear Henry fussing. Another short nap! Gotta go.
