Today Henry is two weeks old. I took him for a weight check today, and he is back to his birth weight of 7 lbs 10 oz.
We are so, so lucky to have Henry here. He has been such a good, easy baby and he fits perfectly into our family. When Chris was leaving for work this morning I told him that even though I was tired, it was really no problem because Henry is such an easy baby and such a sweet little guy. He is a joy.
Henry is starting to have longer awake periods. He likes to watch his rainforest toy or anything with lights, movement, bright colors, music, etc. He enjoys good conversation and socializing too :). He really likes it when I sing to him, and "You are my Sunshine" is his favorite song.
Henry has his fussy times, usually starting in the late evening. Otherwise, when he's upset we can usually tell why. He's either hungry, wet, or needs to get some gas out.
In the last week, Henry has started to fall into a routine that's fairly consistent each day. He usually wakes up for his first morning feeding around 7:00. After his feeding, he either goes back to sleep for a while or will stay awake and alert before having a nap. He naps on and off in the morning and early afternoon. Late mornings are a good time to run errands because he'll sleep in his car seat the whole time. Starting in the mid to late afternoon, Henry is awake more and has begun to have longer awake periods. I usually try to feed him before we eat dinner, and sometimes he naps while we eat which is nice. Most nights I've gotten dinner made up ahead of time so I don't have to cook while trying to entertain Celia and keep Henry fed. Henry has one or two feedings after Celia goes to bed, and also tends to have a long awake period in the evening. Then I head to bed, and Chris stays up with Henry and wakes me up if he needs another feeding. We both end up getting pretty good sleep this way. After Chris goes to bed, I'm generally in charge for the rest of the night since I do feedings. Henry usually ends up eating sometime around midnight and is then ready for a longer stretch of sleep. However, last night he did even better and slept from 8:00 until 6:30 with me getting him up for dream feeds at 2:00 and 5:30! I actually had to pump because he was sleeping and didn't want to eat much. I hope these long periods of sleep become a pattern!
These two weeks have flown by. We're enjoying our snuggly little guy to the fullest while these newborn days last.
