two little monsters

I woke up this morning surprised that I had slept much better than usual. I went downstairs and heard a meowing from behind the basement door. Turns out this little varmint was shut in the basement all night.

No wonder I slept well. I never realized how much he disturbs my sleep, but now I know. He spends the first part of the night pouncing on my feet whenever I move under the covers. He spends the wee morning hours meowing, crying, and walking all over me trying to get me to wake up. And why can't I just shut the bedroom door, you ask? Because if I do that, he spends the night scratching at the door and carpet to be let in. He is a terror. I think it's time to install a high gate at the stairs so he can't come up. Then he'll spend the night peeing on things in the dining room instead. Yep, that's another of his more charming habits. At least it won't hurt my sleep.

Pita and I had nothing special to do today. We had a slow morning at home. I asked if she wanted to go out anywhere and she said she wanted to stay home. For some reason she has been resisting going places lately. I don't know if something scares her or what... She did say she didn't want to go in the street, so I told her if we did I would carry her. I don't know if that's what's bothering her? Or maybe she just likes playing and being at home these days. She is always busy with something, so she might just really like being home. Anyway, we played all morning. Celia had a bath and played in the water for a long time, and I vacuumed upstairs and started some laundry. Then the Fedex man came by with a package of speech therapy things I ordered. There were big sheets of paper used as packaging material in the box, so I saved them all and taped a couple to the floor for Pita to color on. She drew a road for her cars, and it actually kind of looked like a road.

Then we played one of the new games I had ordered a couple times, and got ready for lunch. That's when Pita decided she was extremely tired and cranky, and she spent the next hour complaining, whining, and yelling about anything she could think of (except for a brief period of respite while we were making cookies). During these times she really likes taking things she shouldn't have and throwing them on the floor. It's lots of fun. The best part was when she took off her underpants, threw them dramatically to the floor, yelled "NO UNDERPANTS!", and stomped off. She really showed me with that one :). What a drama queen. She has been a feisty little thing since the day she was born, and I don't think it's ever going to change. I'm hoping Number Two is a bit more laid back.

Anyway, I got her settled down and we read one of her books, and I could tell she was really tired so she went to sleep pretty quickly for her nap. I did more laundry and cleaning, and tried airing out the family room and putting out a bowl of boiling vinegar to get rid of the smoky smell from a failed wood stove lighting the other night. I think it's helping. And, after a few rainy days the sun has come out! Pita and I will definitely get outside or go to the park later.

Time to go get the little monster; I hear her waking up. Have a good weekend, everyone.

  1. She does have a mind of her own, doesn't she? I like the little road map she made!

  2. She looks so old in that picture! And even if your cat is a pain in the neck, he is adorable!

  3. I am having the same issue with Possible (Brodie's cat). He attacks my feet every night, or I wake up and find him staring in my face. He also pees on things randomly. What is the answer? He might become and outside cat!
