weekend in review

We've been having a great weekend here. Yesterday was a day of hard work for both Chris and me, and today we're having a relaxing Sunday. Yesterday, Chris had to finish chopping and stacking wood. It was a big job. His parents came over so his dad could help. Celia and I went to the beach in the morning. I thought we could spend the whole morning there and have a fun activity while Chris was busy. When we got to the beach, it was covered in poop. Yep. Goose poop. Apparently the beach is an overnight bathroom for a large number of geese. It smelled disgusting and you couldn't even walk on the beach or go in the water without risking touching it. I used one of Pita's beach shovels to flick several turds away and give us a path to the water, but it was just so gross. We stayed for a little while, Celia had a snack, and we went home a little earlier than planned. We will not take morning trips to the beach in the future :(

You can see some of the poop on the sand in the background. Gross!
Saturday afternoon, Chris finished chopping wood and I pulled weeds in the yard while Celia had her nap. I have cleared a huge patch of crab grass to prevent it from spreading even more next year. I'm really hoping we can get some actual grass growing in the side yard for next summer. Right now we have a small area of grass and a large bare area where I pulled the weeds. I also cleaned a hand-me-down rug we got and we put it in the front hall yesterday. It looks great there, and it's already had some wear and tear so it's okay if it gets a little dirty sometimes. The hall is starting to look pretty spiffy.

Chris and I were both very tired and sore last night after all our work!

I don't know what we did to deserve it, but Celia has been a model child today. First of all, she slept late until 7:30 this morning! It was so nice. I got up at 7 and read the paper before she woke up. Then we hung out downstairs and let Chris sleep until 8:30. I had to do grocery shopping and was going to take Celia with me, but she refused to use the potty before we left so I left her at home with Chris. That turned out to be great for everyone because Chris and Pita got rare alone time together and my trip to the store was like a vacation. Our grocery store even has a Starbucks so I got to shop with a fancy coffee drink. I think I need to make solo Sunday morning shopping a more regular activity.

When I got home, Chris and Celia had gone out so I unloaded most of the groceries before they returned. Then Celia was apparently in a very happy, independent mood because she played by herself for a LONG time- like from 11:00 until a late lunch at 12:30! This never happens, but maybe she will start playing by herself more often now that she's getting a little older. I was able to give the kitchen a thorough cleaning, light a nice candle, and steam clean the floors.

So nice and clean! I love having a really clean house and clear counters.
Chris also had time to start prepping the baby's room to paint. In order to do this he had to get on a ladder outside to get a screen in the window, so we can have it open. I went to help him and found him wearing a ski helmet for the climb up the ladder. Oh my, it was so funny. I had trouble not laughing while I held the ladder. He was not happy that I wanted to take a picture.

The best part was that while we were out there several cars went by while Chris was walking around the driveway with his helmet on. He said "Great, now all the neighbors think [our address] has a 'special' husband." HAHAHAhahahaha! So funny. I told him people probably thought it was nice that I'm willing to have babies with "that special man". I'm still laughing out loud thinking about it. And yes, I'm aware that we are quite politically incorrect. I'm a special educator, which makes it even better.

After that we had lunch and Celia fell asleep at nap time without a fuss. She is having such a good day today. The house is clean and smells nice, most of my weekend chore list is checked off, and I should have time to just play with Celia for the rest of the day. Which is good, because it sounds like she just woke early from her nap...
