monday miscellany: bats!

1) Today I'm 25 weeks pregnant. By the time I go back to work I'll be in the third trimester!

There isn't much new to report. My belly button is already disappearing. I feel fine other than acid reflux bothering me sometimes. This week I had a pinched nerve in my foot (that last bothered me during marathon training) return. I'm assuming it's something to do with the pregnancy weight gain. Have to get to the doctor soon for it, because my foot is swollen and it's painful.

Normal foot, swollen foot :(
2) Yesterday I shredded an enormous zucchini from my mom's garden and modified a Victory Garden Cookbook recipe to make vegan, reduced fat zucchini cake. Turned out pretty great, and I highly recommend that cookbook if you have a lot of summer produce to use up. It organizes recipes by vegetable, so if you're up to your ears in summer squash you can look up all the squash recipes and find something new to do with it. I'm thinking about doing stuffed summer squash one of these days.

3) We had an unexpected visitor on Saturday night. We'd gotten home from New Hampshire and Chris and I were both ready for an early night and some good sleep. I went to sleep and Chris was reading in the other room. An hour later he came rushing into the bedroom, turned on the light and told me to wake up because we had a bat in the house! We think it must have gotten in through the chimney. It took a while to get it out of the house using a broom, a canvas bin, and a piece of cardboard. Chris didn't want me near until the bat was contained, in case it had any diseases. At one point it flew right at Chris and I'm pretty sure it traumatized him :D. Anyway, finally I went to see what was going on and found this:

Not sure how it got to this point, but the bat was inside the canvas bin. I held the box in place while Chris repositioned himself, and then found a piece of cardboard so he could slide it over the top of the bin and take the bat outside. Quite an adventure. My husband was seriously traumatized by all this. He had to check the whole house and the attic after that. I'm not too crazy about coming across a bat in the house again. Hopefully we'll get the fireplace all closed in with a wood stove soon and we won't have to worry about it at all.

4) I actually planned dinners for every day this week, did the shopping for it already, and did not stray from the shopping list even by one item.

5) Outfit of the Week:

  3. I KNOW your husband appreciates that photo - LOL!! A lady I work with had to pay $7000 to get the bats out of her house last year!! Hope you have no more flying around! :)
