dinner guests

Looks like I don't have pictures to put up today. I've been lazy. I hate when I don't have pictures.

This morning I had a midwife appointment. The little guy was awake for the appointment and gave the midwife some kicks while she was finding his heartbeat. I got some forms to fill out to preregister for the hospital (Already? Wow!) and I'll go back for another appointment and the 1 hour glucose test at the end of August. I also only gained 2 1/2 pounds in the last four weeks, so I was happy about that. I think my body needed to load up on extra weight early on, and for now it's slowed down. At my next appointment I'll be into the third trimester! Time to really get moving on preparations of all kinds for the new guy's arrival.

Celia was playing in the sprinkler at daycare when I went to pick her up, and she didn't want to leave. She gives us a hard time in the morning because she doesn't want to go, and then as soon as she's there she wants to stay all day. There were only a few other kids today and of course Pita was playing with her best friend Jack. When I got there I heard her say "Jack, come see my Mommy" and she took his hand and took him over to me to say hi. They're so cute.

Tonight we're having one of Chris's employees and his wife over for dinner (and she has just moved to the US and hardly speaks English!). I've just spend part of Pita's nap time getting ready- food is prepped, house is clean, dishes and everything else are set out. We're having a combination of meat, vegetarian, and vegan stuff- bbq chicken, lemon-ricotta pasta with asparagus, greek lentil-veggie salad, and vegan peach and blueberry crisp. Speaking of which, the crisp has a pecan topping that turned out to be so freaking delicious that I'm gonna try making cookies out of it. I'll post the recipe if they turn out well.

I feel like tonight requires some finesse because when you think about it from our guests' perspective, they're going to the boss' house for dinner! That's so weird to think about. So I, the boss' wife, have been getting a nice but not-too-fancy dinner ready so we can have a fun time but at the same time not make them feel uncomfortable coming here. We don't want to go all out. We actually would rather not impress people. In fact, last night we were having paranoid thoughts that we hope our house doesn't seem too big or fancy. It occurs to me that compared to where they're from, having a house like this probably makes us look like gazillionaires (which we're not, but we are so well off in the US compared to most of the world). We're still not used to living here ourselves! Anyway, I'm sure it will all be fine and we'll have a good time. I'll get to practice my Spanish a little too, so that will be fun.

Celia's just woken up from her nap, so time to go. Maybe she, the new guy and I will have a nice cool bath or get out the wading pool. It is hot today!

  1. I hop that the dinner is a great success. JDaniel loves playing in his sprinkler too.

  2. How exciting that you are nearing your third trimester! I also love that you get to see a midwife.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. They are much appreciated and I needed to hear them. Have a blessed day.

  3. You are such a nice hostess and I know the visit will go wonderfully well!

You make me laugh talking about the new guy and you having a bath or a swim!

I can't blame Pita for not wanting to leave the sprinkler. It's blazing hot this week!

  4. I feel the same when we get together with Corey's employees, and am sure you did awesome! Asher is the same as Cecelia about going to and leaving daycare!
