monday miscellany

1) The other night Chris was reading to Celia and I heard him say, "A shmock. Not a shmuck, but a shmock." What the heck was he talking about? There was a picture of a smock in the book, and he thought it was called a "shmock". I laughed so hard. He has a history of turning "s"s into "sh". I still can't get him to say "s'mores" instead of "shmores".

Have I mentioned that I'm a speech therapist?

2) We went out for dinner on Saturday. We had a gift certificate to a chain restaurant that always, for no good reason I can tell, has an absurdly long wait for tables. We got there before 5:00 and still waited for 45 minutes! Celia did great. She did some people watching, played with some kids' apps that I had thought to download on my phone, and ran around outside with Chris. She behaved so well at the table too and ate a big dinner! She had ravioli and called it "raccaroli".

3) This is what Celia looked like after she got herself ready to go out to dinner:

4) The icicle situation is out of control here. Our neighbor has water pouring into her house from an ice dam on her roof. Luckily we don't have that problem, but our icicles are getting longer and longer. The longest one is named Fang.

5) Celia loves to wait for Chris at the top of the stairs when he gets home from work. She stays very quiet and yells "Surprise!" when he comes around the corner. She's really into the idea of surprising people these days.

6) Naps still aren't going very well. Pita is always trying to avoid nap time, and then she cries and cries when I follow through and leave her in the crib.

7) Have you noticed how little I write about running these days? Ahem. I am a big slacker and I've been keeping the workouts indoors lately. With all the snow and ice, it's slippery and the roads no longer have a safe amount of space for pedestrians. I'm really looking forward to spring for running.

8) We found a new indoor playground to take Celia to yesterday. She was too small to navigate everything by herself, but she loved it!

9) I've still been making my way through new recipes from The Vegan Table: 200 Unforgettable Recipes for Entertaining Every Guest at Every Occasion. This is my very favorite vegan cookbook, out of the ones I've tried so far. I recently made polenta shapes, and they were delicious.

10) Outfit of the week:

She got hold of my scarf and kept snuggling with it and saying "Nice and cozy!"

  1. That polenta dish looks absolutely delicious. I hope you guys get a break soon. You've been covered in snow forever now.

Seriouslly, when is Cleia going to start her own fashion blog? Love the pics.

  3. I think that's so sweet how Celia loves to wait for him and how she says ravioli (makes you not want to even correct them). Love the sunglasses. Whoa baby...those icicles are fierce!

  4. I just love Celia's outfits! I actually thought of her this morning when Noelle ran up to me in her pajama top, regular pants, a tu-tu and one of my Tiffany necklaces. I intend to post it if I can track down my USB cable and will surely give Celia a "shout out" ;) Happy 2nd Birthday to her! I don't know where I've been but I just did a little catch up reading. Holy snow, Batman! I'm a little jealous (although I think that is even too much for me!). Stay safe with all of the ice! Happy Monday :)

  9. Love the outfits and love that she yells surprise. This doesn't happen often enough in life. That cookbook sounds great even though we're not vegan. It's nice to have a vegan meal once in a while!
