brrrrr!

I haven't posted in a few days, so get ready for lots of pictures!

Friday was a really cold day. Single digit kind of cold, with the wind chill. I expect it in mid-winter, but it was quite a surprise to dip from forties to single digits. The day involved several keep-warm strategies.

Candle burning,

scarf wrapping,

hot tea drinking,

and my favorite: wool sock wearing.

I also convinced Pita to snuggle in a chair with me and read books for a while. We got all the way through One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish for the first time.

Yesterday we had a regular old day at home. Then I had to get a new battery put in my car, so we made the errand into an evening out. It was not the sort of night out you might imagine, but seeing as we have a toddler and don't get out much anymore- it was honestly super, super fun! We dropped off my car and went to Panera for dinner. Panera is the ideal place to bring a little kid. It's busy and noisy, so it's okay if the little monster wants to talk and climb around in the booth. It has really good food, and fairly healthy kids meals that Celia likes. And the best part- no waiting for the food! Nice and easy.
After eating we still had time to kill, so Celia watched a short Sesame Street download on Chris's phone.

Look at her little arm around her daddy!
Then we stopped at Home Depot to research some things for our home improvements. This may have been the highlight of Celia's night. She had a HUGE smile on her face while driving this cart around the store.

In fact, Celia had so much fun going to the "restaurant" and Home Depot that she didn't want to go home! She kept saying "No home. No home" in the car. It really was a fun night out.

This morning we had our first icy roads of the season. Things were pretty slippery and the sand trucks were out, but it warmed up fast. Chris took Pita out for breakfast at a divey little cafe in town. I met up with them when they were done. The cafe is tiny, so Celia had the opportunity to greet everyone who came in and probably charmed them all. When we got ready to leave, she was giving the royal wave and saying "Goodbye, everybody! Target!" She was announcing where she was going next- Ha! We had to get a few things at Target, so we went there and Celia spent some time visiting all the "babies" in the doll aisle. She loves to look at all the dolls.

Now it's pouring rain outside and Chris and I are sitting quietly in the living room with the Christmas lights on, while Celia naps. I should really be getting things packed up for tomorrow, but sitting on the couch with a book and comfy clothes on sounds awfully nice...

  1. Warm socks, tea and snuggling sound like a great recipe for keeping warm. We are actually having a warm trend this weekend out here in California. It's in the 70's but will drop back down in a couple of days. I'll try to send some warmth your way.

I remember reading that book to my son! Seems so long ago.

  3. Panera, you guys go upscale! We went to Arby's before picking out our Christmas tree this week, and it felt like a huge treat to be out. I can totally relate to the phase you're in now.

  4. I love seeing her wiping her little face. I didn't realize they had good options for kids' meals!

I like the sounds of your weekend!
