relaxing friday

For some reason, today has just been a very relaxing day. We don't have much to do, I don't have to find time for a run, and the house is relatively clean so there aren't many chores to do. This morning we went to Celia's 18 month check up. Chris came with us and went to work late, which was lucky because we ended up waiting for over 45 minutes in the exam room. It was a lot easier to keep Celia entertained with both of us there. The appointment went well. Celia didn't need any shots because she got them all at 15 months, and we don't have another check up until she turns two! As we knew she is still a tiny little thing, now at the 6th percentile for weight and the 7th for height. Here's Celia, ready and waiting by the stairs to leave for the doctor this morning. She was excited and went right to the stairs chanting "Doctor! Doctor!" when I told her we were going.

When Pita and I finally got home from the doctor, we played outside for a while and went for a walk. Celia loves checking on Theodora to see if she has any tomatoes ready to pick.

Every time we go outside she wants to water the plants and check on them just like I do.

Then she played in her car for a while. I could tell she was in the process of pooping, and sure enough she suddenly said "Uh oh. Poop!" and grabbed her diaper with the funniest expression on her face. Ha! She was totally disgusted with herself!

We had lunch and Celia played until she started yawning and lay on the floor with her blanket saying "night night". I put her down for a nap and got dinner ready for the oven. I decided to try my hand at adapting a couple of recipes to make tomato, summer squash, eggplant gratin and vegan cheddar biscuits. While I was cooking, it started to rain. It's one of those light summer showers that make the air nice and cool and sweet smelling. This is when I really felt like it was a perfect summer afternoon, with the soft sound of rain and delicious cool air swirling through the windows, and the smell of fresh basil and tomatoes still on my hands. I opened all the windows, made a pot of vanilla rose tea, and finished my kitchen work. Celia has been having a very restless sort of nap. She has already woken up three times in the last 90 minutes. I keep having to go upstairs to rock her or give her a binkie. Hopefully she will end up getting enough sleep, or the relaxing feeling of the day may disappear! If she doesn't sleep much longer I think a trip to Target will be in order to keep her entertained, since we can't play outside in the rain.

Looking forward to a nice weekend, and trying not to freak out about the 14 mile run I have tomorrow!
