labor day weekend

We've had a good long weekend before the school year really gets started. On Friday, Celia didn't have school so the kids and I were home. I took them to the playground in the morning. I got a box of free boys' clothes from another mom in town, and Henry was very happy about this tractor hat. He is really into tractors these days. The kids are really cute when they play at this playground, because they pretend the whole time. Different spots on the playground are different "places".

On Saturday morning I went for a run, and Chris's parents came and took the kids to the playground. Chris stacked wood and I went to the office for a while. I don't like going in to the office on weekends, but I get things done so much faster when I'm the only one there. I got a lot done in a short time. On Sunday we went to pick apples and peaches. The orchard we like is a great place, with some farm animals and a nice playground area in addition to picking.

Henry is now in a phase of refusing to smile (or even look) for pictures. He makes weird faces instead.

A woman had offered to take our picture, and of course Henry gave her a big, handsome smile after it was already taken. They are both so serious while riding in the wagon. They sit with their hands firmly on their legs and don't move an inch.

During nap time, Celia and I made an apple pie. Pie making is not my favorite activity, but I do like pie...

And we ended up spending a lot of time riding our bikes. This basically means that we all ride around in circles in the driveway. Haha. It will be nice to go for real bike rides when the kids are older, but it was actually pretty fun.

On Monday morning, I went grocery shopping early. Then we rode bikes some more, Chris took Celia to get some things for soccer, and Henry didn't nap so I was home playing with him and making Celia's lunch for tomorrow. Then we played outside almost until dinner time. The kids were playing really well together after dinner, so I went and took a luxuriously long, hot shower before we put them to bed.

We have a big week ahead. It's Celia's first real week of school, since she had only one day last week. She also has dance and soccer starting this week.
