4 1/2 years

Celia is 4 1/2 years old.

I find that as she gets older, I don't even know how to write these posts because I'm overwhelmed by all the things I could say about her. I don't know where to start.

Pita is: Teeny tiny at 29 pounds, curly-haired, sweet and kind, funny, smart, caring, innocent, curious, sometimes shy, usually happy, sensitive, quite dramatic, and a wonderful little big sister.

She likes: Playing pretend, arts and crafts, playing in dirt, dressing up, collecting rocks, playing on playgrounds, swimming, playing games, doing puzzles, school, helping around the house... I will not go on, actually. Sweetie girl likes almost everything.

Lately we've been having some behavior problems when there are changes in Celia's schedule, when she has some anxiety about something new, or when she's tired and hungry around dinner time. She can tantrum with the best (worst?) of them. I printed out a calendar for her, and at the beginning of each week we look at it and talk about what she'll be doing each day. This has helped her a lot. This week we also made a dinner time behavior chart. She earns dessert if she comes to the table when called, uses polite words and a nice voice, and eat a good supper. She helped me make the chart and so far she likes using it and has been doing well at dinner time.

Celia is growing up. She's still a little girl, but at the same time is noticing new things about people and the world around her. She surprises me with the connections she makes. As she learns and notices new things, I try to give her age-appropriate information and often give her just a little information at a time and see what she does with it. Sometimes, I can tell that she doesn't quite grasp a concept so I don't talk about it any further. Sometimes she takes some time to think about things, and a few days later she wants to talk about it again and I can tell she's been thinking about it. Sometimes, she asks questions right away and we have an in-depth conversation. It's fascinating to see her mind work.

4 1/2 is a pretty great age.

  1. 4 1/2 is a great age! I hear that it's good that she has a little bit of deviance in her because she is learning about boundaries and conflicts at the most opportune time, rather than when it comes with a higher price tag. I don't know why I would have read up on behavior problems or anything ;)

  2. She is so cute. I agree it is a great age. My niece is that same age and I love seeing all the connections she makes now. They are so smart.

Too funny how close in weight she and her brother are!! :)
