Henry turned 14 months on January 28th.
Stats: I have no idea on weight or length, but Henry has been eating a lot of food, so I'm guessing he might be having a growth spurt. He is still in 12 month clothes, size 3 diapers, and just moved to size 4 shoes.
Schedule: Henry goes to bed at 7:30 each night. He does not make a peep all night long! Sleep training really did wonders. It's so nice to go to bed and know we will get a full night of sleep. For a while Henry was waking up at 6:00 in the morning, but the last few days he has slept until 6:30. We discovered that he really likes Greek coconut milk yogurt and he has had a big serving of that after dinner the last few nights. I'm wondering if really filling him up before bed is helping him sleep longer in the morning. He is always starving when he gets up.
A typical day at home:
6-6:30 Wake up, nurse
7:00 Have some dry cereal, play
8:00 Breakfast
8:30 Play
10:30-11:00 Have a snack, nurse, play some more
12:00 Lunch
1:00-3:00 Nap
3:30 Nurse, Snack, Play
5:45 Dinner, Play/Bath
7:00 Nurse
7:30 Bed
Motor Development: Tonight Henry took 3-4 steps by himself twice! I think he will start walking any time. The only reason he isn't is that he prefers to hold onto something. But I think he really could walk if he really wanted to.
Feeding: Nothing new with this, really. Henry is thriving on a plant-based diet. He eats the same things we do. The only difference is that Henry doesn't eat anything sugary, so if we have a treat or dessert he might have some fruit or puffs instead. Henry has decided that he likes having his own spoon or fork when he eats. He really likes eating his yogurt himself with a spoon.
Language: Henry understands names for toys, some body parts, some actions, foods, drinks, and common objects around the house. He is always babbling and using jargon, and engages in turn taking with his jargon to have "conversations" with people. He does not use as many words, or use words as often as I would prefer, but I keep hoping he will start talking more soon. (Remember I am a speech therapist, so I sort of expect my own children to follow normal development... I'm a bit nervous that he doesn't really talk much yet and he's a little delayed.) Henry has used the following words, but doesn't use most of them consistently and really only uses words in imitation: Hi, bye, Dada, Mama, Nana, Celia, Gentle, Apple, All done, Light. I feel like there are others I'm forgetting.
Cognitive/Play: Henry's play is changing to include more pretend play. He pretends to stir and eat with toy spoons and play food, and imitates feeding a doll. He likes to hug and kiss stuffed animals. He really likes playing with toy cars, and keeps himself busy for a long time doing that. He also likes to play with blocks. Henry still likes filling and dumping with containers. He likes to get into the kitchen cabinets and take everything out. I keep a box of blocks and toys for him in one cabinet, and he likes to take out my food processor pitcher and fill it with blocks. Henry generally likes to get into things he shouldn't, and makes a game out of crawling as fast as he can for the stairs and waiting for someone to come catch him. We don't have the stairs gated, and he knows he isn't allowed to go up alone. Henry loves music. Singing, dancing, playing little instruments. He has some serious dance moves. Henry Boy also has a great sense of humor. Celia is always making him laugh, he likes playing peekaboo around the partition between our front hall and dining room, and he loves being tickled. The best part about the tickling is that I will tickle him, and he laughs and then tries to tickle himself. So cute.
For a while I was sad that Henry wasn't going to be a baby much longer, but I am looking forward to the next several months. Toddlerhood is a fun stage.

I was wondering if speech therapists babies started talking sooner because of all the extra help. It sounds like he is doing just fine. That is awesome that you enjoy the toddler stage, bring it on!
ReplyDeleteHe a doll! I love the toddler stage too. Can't wait to see him hit it!
