monday miscellany

1) We ended up trick-or-treating for Halloween. We went to a street that's well known for trick-or-treating, and several houses are all decorated and lit up. Celia loved it, and we managed to end up without too much candy. She has had one or two pieces each day and has enough for one more day. Since both Celia and Henry will not stop moving these days, I could not get good pictures of their costumes. Henry dressed up as Chris. It was the easiest costume ever- button down shirt, khakis, iPhone and work ID badge.

Celia was a butterfly fairy.

Pita is really into fairies lately. Yesterday she was flying around the house pretending to be a fairy, and had me build her a fairy house.

2) This guy has really been getting rascally lately. He has learned how to climb stairs, which is quite dangerous. Can't let him out of my sight for long. He kept standing up at Celia's table where she was playing yesterday, and she kept saying "No Henry, I don't want any mischief!" Ha!

3) In the last week I've tried a few new "treat" recipes- healthier vegan versions of Rolos, Butterfingers, and Thin Mints. They are all pretty addictive so I will not make them again for a while.

4) Luckily I've offset the treats with a lot of vegetables. I crave broccoli quite often, and I've been wanting roasted broccoli with garlic and lemon for a couple days now.

5) Tried a new recipe for carrot salad last week. It was very easy to make and a hit with the whole family. I also realized that shredding the vegetables is a great way for Henry to be able to eat some raw vegetables.

6) How did the end of daylight savings go for you all? I started putting the kids to bed a little later each night the week before, so it wasn't a bad transition. On Saturday we shifted the whole schedule later and put the kids to bed almost a full hour late, so we were already on the new schedule. They were out like a light when they finally went to bed. Celia fell asleep before I even finished her lullaby! They woke up at a pretty good time in the morning.

7) I am (for real, this time) starting my new job today. It was postponed a week with Hurricane Sandy coming through last week. I'm sure it will be a lot of boring training stuff this week, but I'm excited to get started.

8) I'm trying to figure out what to do with Henry's feeding schedule. As he nears 12 months, it seems like we could start dropping a nursing session or two. On the other hand, why worry about it if it's all going well?

9) This week is spirit week at Celia's school. Today is pajama day. She was excited to wear pajamas to school.

10) Speaking of pajamas, I secretly got some Christmas pjs for Celia and Henry. Our Elf on the Shelf, Elrod, will bring them after Thanksgiving. They are going to be so cute together in their Christmasy pajamas.

  3. Oh goodness! I am so stealing that pj idea from the Elf! Maybe it will inspire Blayd to actually WEAR pajamas!!
I am so thankful for daylight savings. It has been so hard to get the boys to go to bed when it is sunny and warm outside.
I am dying that you dressed Henry as his dad!! LOL
