monday miscellany

1) We had a good weekend. Beautiful weather meant that we spent a lot of time outside on Saturday playing in the yard, going out for lunch, and going to the playground. I took Celia for a 4 mile run in the stroller too!

The best picture I could get. It's almost impossible to get both kids looking at the camera at the same time.
2) On Sunday we all went for a walk. There is a mean dog at a house not too far away, who always comes out into the road to bully people passing by. It's so annoying and I really should start reporting it to animal control. Anyway, I always dread going by this house but today there were some neighbors standing with the dog in the road, and the dog's tail was wagging and he was looking as friendly as can be. Turns out they were giving the dog treats! Ha! Smart to make friends with the little monster. We almost didn't think it was the same dog because it looked so friendly. Anyway, our neighbors said they were "bribing the mean dog"- so funny. They walk a lot so they probably figured out it they should make friends. Anyway, it was very effective and I'm tempted to carry some dog treats with me now.

3) I got new glasses last week and I've been wearing the to get used to the new prescription. They are kids' glasses. Ridiculous. When I tried on frames, the woman helping me brought me to the kids' section because my face is too small for the adult frames. So I had a very limited selection but luckily found a pair that aren't childish and fit my face well.

Fun fact: I have a lazy eye. It's not very obvious, but it's there. It took about ten tries                                                                to get a picture that didn't show my lazy eye.
4) Henry's two top front teeth started coming through yesterday. He has been sleeping poorly and crankier than usual lately. I don't know if it's the teething that's bothering him, but this did happen when the first two teeth came in, so maybe it is. Sure enough, last night he slept well. Hopefully it will continue! We never noticed any teething issues with Celia and I thought people were kind of blowing teething out of proportion (probably they still are), but Henry really does seem to have some issues when he's about to get a new tooth.

5) Celia and I made a rocket ship out of a box on Friday. It has sparkly pipe cleaners sticking out of toilet paper tubes for the rockets. I hitched a string to the front, and Celia and Henry both love getting rides. Henry would probably ride around in it all day if he could.

Yesterday we had the bright idea of making it into a two-seater. We added another box. This is luxury transportation.

It only lasted a few laps around the house like this before the weight on the strings made them cut through the cardboard and rip it apart, so right now the ship is in the shop for repairs. I will try to duct tape it all back together, and will have two very disappointed little people if it doesn't work.

  1. I like your new glasses. They look perfect for your face. I have a neighbor that has 3 mean dogs. At least your neighbor is trying to make it friendly. My neighbor could care less. She tells the kids to walk on the other side of the street. People I see walking always across to the other side when they are coming by her house. She has the electronic fence but most people don't know that so it looks like the dogs are able to get out.

  2. You're new glasses look great. I really like your haircut too.

Ack, I'd be so annoyed eith that dog too. I always carry mace with me when I run because the poeple in my neighborhood aren't good about restraining their dogs either. I have no idea if that will protect me....or possibly incite a dog further. Maybe I need some dog treats in my pocket instead.

  3. I have a lazy eyelid! You cannot usually notice except in pictures. My mom and I had a bike wreck when I was little and it damaged the eye.
I love your glasses and hair!
Isn't it funny how 2 boxes can be such fun - more so than expensive toys! :)

  4. Dogs can be really funny that way. But there is nothing worse than an obnoxious or angry dog ruining your walk.

Stopping by from Miscellany Monday linkup.

  5. Four miles!! Applauding!

And don't you just love how many hours of fun and joy your little ones can get out of a simple box! Love.
