11 months

Henry is 11 months old today. I'm writing this post hurriedly, because we have Hurricane Sandy coming our way and we're busy preparing.

Stats: We happened to be at the doctor this week, and Henry weighed 19 lbs. He's wearing some 9 month and some 12 month clothes. He's still in size 3 diapers. Henry's top two front teeth are coming in now, so he has four teeth so far. As his teeth started coming in, I noticed that he has a pretty significant upper lip tie that I hadn't noticed before. The teeth really make it obvious, and there is a big gap between his teeth. I need to research it more, but I think it may now be too late to have the tie clipped. We may need to wait until he's older now and do braces if needed. I really don't want my kids to have braces. Yuck.

Schedule: Henry's schedule is the same as last month. Between teething and being sick in the last month, he has had good and bad periods for night time sleep.

Motor Development: Henry is an expert crawler by now. He moves fast! He easily travels all over the house. He has gotten very good at pulling himself to standing pretty much anywhere. I want to find him a better standing toy so he can use something safer for standing than Celia's desk, and her table and chairs. Henry has also started cruising a little. He wants to stand up all the time.

Feeding: Henry is still breastfeeding, and we will continue that as long as possible. He eats table food now, with no more baby food. Henry likes all fruits, many vegetables (green beans, peas, carrots, sweet potato, squash, corn), grains like rice and barley, and beans. He likes almost everything we eat. Lately he has liked pasta dishes, lentil loaf, marinated tofu, and sandwiches made with hummus, sunflower seed butter, or "cheese" I make with coconut milk. I've also been making him sugar-free pancakes, oatmeal bars, and muffins and he really likes those.

Social and Communication: Henry isn't using any more words and hasn't said "Mama" meaningfully in a long time. He still says "hi", and he waves to say hi and bye. He has, however, begun imitating words randomly throughout the day. Sometimes one of us will say a sentence or a word, and Henry very clearly says it back! So although he isn't using more words, he is imitating a lot more and making new sounds. He also likes to have little conversations, talking back and forth with someone.

Cognitive and Play: Henry is beginning to have more separation anxiety with me. He has always been Mommy's boy because we have spend so much time together, but lately he gets upset if I leave or if he sees me in another room. He has started to like peekaboo and hide-and-seek type games. He has a sense of humor. He likes our jack-in-the-box and laughs when it opens. Henry sometimes imitates simple play like moving a toy car around. He likes knocking down towers of blocks and bricks, and likes to play ball. He's good at throwing a ball back and forth. He spends a lot of time following Celia around and trying to get into whatever she's doing. His big sister is fascinating!

Except for when he's sick or overtired, he is such a sweet and happy little guy. It's hard to believe that next month he will have a birthday! I still have very clear memories of his birth and those newborn weeks.
