monday miscellany

Monday again already? Geez.

1) We had a nice weekend. On Sunday we had a great day. Both kids were just in really good moods and really easy going all day, so that made it an easy day. Chris spent a lot of time organizing the garage, I did grocery shopping, and went through our freezer and pantry stuff.

2) I went for two runs over the weekend. I've realized that I'll never have the time to run regularly unless I take one of the kids with me on my runs. On Saturday I went out for about 30 minutes with Henry, and on Sunday Celia and I went for a 40 minute run. If I want to do longer runs I'll have to go alone or when I know Henry will sleep.

3) I'm slowly making more garden progress. Potted herbs last week.

4) I have a new little desk area that I really like. I was picturing myself using it a lot, before I remembered that I have two small people to take care of and not much time to sit at a desk :). Someday I'll sit there a lot. For now it's once or twice a week, and it's a perfect place to sit and write in my planner and do bills and paperwork.

5) Henry and I had the best little impromptu play date with our neighbor and her son this morning. We went for a walk and played at their house. Oliver is ten months and Henry is almost six, and they are just getting old enough to interact with each other a little.

6) On Saturday Chris was busy stacking wood, so I took the little ones out that morning and we got Celia a water table. I always resist buying the big plastic outdoor things, but this was a good decision. She has since spent every possible moment playing with it. It will keep her busy all summer, and I put it on the deck so she can play by herself while I cook or do things in the house.

7) This guy has had oatmeal a couple of times now, and sweet potato twice too. I'm just giving him a little bit each time and he seems to like it. No need to start actual "meals" quite yet, but I'll aim for once a day.

8) I'm thinking about getting an air horn to ward off mean dogs on my runs. Do you guys think that would work? We have leash laws here, but dog owners tend to ignore them. Dangerous for the dogs, really annoying and dangerous for runners.

9) Anybody watching The Bachelorette? The ultimate junk food for the brain, these shows are. I have a girl crush on Emily so I'll be watching mostly because of that.

10) Celia says a lot of cute things, but my favorite lately is that she uses the word "whiles" instead of minutes. So she'll tell me she wants to do something "for a few more whiles", or she'll tell us to wait "a couple whiles".

Henry didn't nap long this morning and I now have him sleeping. Time to get away from the laptop and  get some things done!

  1. LB loves his water table! Although now he has figured out he can climb into it and it has become a pool for him. ::sigh::
Henry is just adorable and so is Celia for that matter :)

  3. I love when kids use "odd" words! It is too cute. Asher stills says "for-out" instead of "without". He will say, "Grandpa can't go fore-out me!"
Yeah, I need something to ward of dogs too. The horn is not a bad idea! I should try that. this year I have had 3 dogs actually come and touch me, where before they just got close. I worry I'll get bit!
