our day

I haven't had the time to write much lately. When I do have time, there are other things competing for my attention. The two baskets of laundry next to me, waiting to be folded, for example... Here's what's been happening around here.

I've been exercising regularly and have cleaned up my diet quite a bit. I have lost five pounds since making these changes. Hopefully it will continue and I won't look too porky in summer clothes a few months from now. Highly recommend the McDougall Diet, which is basically just a super healthy plant-based diet that steers clear of processed things and is heavy on vegetables and whole grains.

I took Celia with me on a walk the other day. She hasn't ridden in the stroller in a long time. It was fun! Of course I had to listen to non-stop 3-year-old talk the entire time, and when I was out of breath pushing her up hills she couldn't understand why I wasn't able to talk to her much. At one point she saw a speed limit sign and exclaimed "Hey! That sign has a three, just like I'm three!" She is really into the number three these days.

She brought her breakfast for the ride.
Fun fact: This exact spot was one of my routine pee stops when I was marathon training. I can pee anywhere.
Last week was warm and summery, so naturally it is freezing this week. This morning we braved the cold and wind for a couple of errands. Celia has been taking her pull-up off during the night and putting on underwear. The only problem with this is that she isn't night trained! So we have to work on that. We may have to wake her to pee, maybe before Chris goes to bed, for now to try to avoid accidents. I'm not sure what else we can do because I think it's mostly a developmental thing. For the meantime, I picked up an extra waterproof mattress pad so I can layer one mattress pad and fitted sheet on top of another for easy night time sheet changes. Then Celia wanted a snack at Panera of course, so we did that and went home. Henry was a little cranky because he missed having a good nap while we were out, but he slept in the car and it was okay.

Celia has been really good at playing more independently lately. There are times when she wants someone to play with her or we interact while she plays, but she often entertains herself. She's also gotten pretty good at allowing me to do things with Henry (feed him, put him down for naps) without having to be all over me. Lately she has been doing a lot of pretending- playing with her dollhouse and her baby especially. Today she pretended she was a doctor while I made lunch, and then played with play dough while I changed Henry and put him down for a nap. They both took great naps this afternoon! I told Celia I'd have a surprise for her if she took a nap, so I made brownies while they were sleeping. Brownies are not part of my weight loss plan, in case you were wondering. But they were whole wheat and made with applesauce to replace half the oil...

After nap time we're just playing and passing the time until dinner.

Not much going on for the rest of the week, which is a good thing. Henry and I will probably just stay home the next couple of days. We'll have plenty of time to play, do some housework, and get my workouts done. Henry turns four months tomorrow, so I'll have a post up for that either tomorrow or Thursday!
