miscellany monday- 34 weeks!

1) Wowzers. I feel like 34 weeks is pretty far into this baby growing thing, and that's where I am today. I have been letting housework and cooking slide a little to give myself a little more rest. Chris has started helping with some things like laundry, and sometimes after dinner I need to just rest and have him take over with Celia.

I have been feeling about the same as last week. Getting more rest definitely helps with everything... except for one thing. I've been debating whether to bring this up, but what the heck? Most of my readers are women and mothers, and even the men are probably well aware of common pregnancy-related problems. So, let's talk about hemorrhoids, shall we girls? Gah! I'm sure it's just that I'm bigger than last time, but I have some really scary ones. As in, I'm scared to push a baby out because how much worse is that going to make them? I've tried all the usual remedies and some help with discomfort temporarily, but they're pretty bad. Has anyone else had a bad case during pregnancy and survived it all without serious issues after delivery? Or a bad case you were able to correct or recover from before having the baby? Can you comment and I will email you??

2) Chris is starting his new job this week. He's away for a couple days for orientation, and luckily my parents are coming to stay and help out. Chris and Pita spent part of the evening before he left building forts and telling stories under a blanket.

3) The leaves on our trees, while lovely, are still green. We got too much rain and haven't had enough sunshine and cool temperatures for them to change yet. I hope we get some good fall weather before it's too late for nice foliage.

4) I started Christmas shopping over the weekend, all online. With the baby coming, I'll feel much more prepared with that done. Got some things for Celia, and doubled up on the cutest little thing for our new niece and our new guy (that will probably be the only present we get him- he'll only be a month old and there's really no need to get him anything at all).

5) That reminds me, I think we have an Elf on the Shelf that we were given last year and saved. Celia will really like that this year. Christmas time is going to be even more fun with her than it was last year.

6) Yes, I am aware that Halloween hasn't even passed. I'm a bit ahead of things. That's what having a Thanksgiving baby will do to you, I think.

7) Speaking of that, Pita's costume is almost complete. Nothing fancy, but she will make a cute little Thumbelina. We have at least 2 events besides trick-or-treating where she'll get to wear her costume this year.

8) The other night Celia told us she learned an apple song at daycare, and started singing it for us. So cute.

9) Also, we now have an expert tricycle rider. She rides all over the place now without any help. It's a great outdoor activity for her, and we have enough space that she can bring it inside too. Turns out she's quite a speed demon inside. We've had some close calls. Yesterday we were trying to explain that she had to slow down a little and she just kept saying "No, I have to go fast!" She finally took a spill last night, so I think it will have to stay outside for a while.

10) We went apple picking yesterday. I thought there would still be plenty of apples this weekend, but the orchard was closed for picking already. They still let us go, but warned us that it would be hard to find apples and it was! I made apple crisp for a special breakfast for Celia and I this morning. It's actually a nice healthy breakfast- kept the sugar to a minimum and made topping with oats, whole wheat flour, and pecans.

  2. Celia is adorable :) and so is her apple song!

Hemorrhoids. Yes. I had them after giving birth and they lasted a while, because it took me way too long to realize that certain foods were making it worse! Spicy stuff, mostly... and milk (because the stress of labor apparently sent me into some terrible lactose intolerance). So... all I can say is pay attention to foods that bother you. Once I pinpointed what those were, it went away quickly. Also maybe stool softeners, (but not laxatives!) would help?? I have a friend who used those through pregnancy and after to help with that. E-mail if you wish :) fhlagape at aol dot com.

  5. Those last pictures of Celia are so cute!!! How fun that she got to play with Daddy before he's off for a few days. I have noticed not to many trees turning yet either...hopefully soon. I hope your issue gets better soon...boo. You're not to early either...I know tons of people who start Christmas shopping...I think that's smart. 34 weeks looks good on you :)
