zoo

Last night around 11:00 I was woken up by Celia crying a little, and Chris ran upstairs and said he heard a big thump. He thought she fell out of bed, but I don't think that's likely. I heard a thump from her room at nap time today, and I think it was just her playing in the bed or something hitting the headboard. Anyway, we don't know what happened but Celia was out of bed and walking across her room to come find us. It didn't seem like she'd gotten hurt so I have no idea what happened. It was the first time she's gotten out of the bed in the night so it must have been something unusual. We calmed her down and put her back to bed, but I think we were both shaken. Then I didn't sleep well the rest of the night between worrying about Pita, her waking up again around 2:00, and it being really hot. We have an air conditioner in our room, but it's so loud that I can't hear the baby monitor to know if Celia needs me. So we pretty much suffered being hot all night. Luckily Pita slept until almost 7:00 and we did too.

I'm trying to look on the bright side and see this as training for when we have a new baby and have to get by on little sleep. Anyway, we had plans for today so I didn't have a lot of time to feel sorry for myself. Celia's daycare was taking a small group of kids to the zoo, so Celia and I went along. We got all packed up (and I realized I need some kind of bag that's the right size for taking day trips) and headed to the zoo. Pita was so excited to see the animals and that all her friends would be there. I'm not really a fan of zoos because sometimes it's clear that the animals aren't living the way they're meant to. I don't think captivity is healthy for them. But, Celia doesn't know any of this yet and she's at a great age for it now. Our zoo also has a train to ride on, playground, and areas where you can pet and feed goats, turkeys, and deer. It's shady almost everywhere, so even on hot days you at least don't have to worry about the sun. Pita had a great time. On the way home she told me, "Mommy, I have the best mommy I've ever seen." Haha- not sure if she really knew what she was saying but it was cute.

I loved this wagon. I wonder if Celia would ride in it if we got one. She won't sit in a stroller anymore, but for outings like today's it would be great to pull her and our stuff in...

Celia was worn out when we got home. We had an unsuccessful attempt at lunch, she was cranky and hot, and it took a while to get her to take a nap. I was so relieved when she finally quieted down because she really needed it. It's hot today, and humid, and I didn't have a lot up my sleeve for keeping a tired toddler happy all afternoon if she didn't nap. I'm all going to let Celia help me make frosting for a cake later. Today is Chris's birthday. Celia picked out a confetti cake to make, and wanted to make green frosting. Funny how birthdays just get less and less exciting as you get older. Blub didn't really want to do anything. The cake is mainly for Celia.

We will just try to stay cool indoors for the rest of the day, I think. I love the new house but really miss central air!

  1. Celia is so cute I love her dress! My mom has that wagon and she pushes Kelcee and her cousin in it and it is a big hit..you will love it and when the little one is old enough to ride it will be a great alternative to a stroller :) She looks like she had so much fun at the zoo! OMG Kelcee kicks the wall sometimes at night and it freaks me out but it is just her moving in her sleep...lol I still have the baby monitor too...girl of course she knew what she was saying when she said your the best mommy ever! How sweet...LOL Celia wants to make green frosting and of course "it will be a big deal" when you get older hey green frosting rocks LOL...
