let there be light

Lots of changes going on here today. First of all, my mom put in several day lilies in the front of the house yesterday. What a big difference from all the overgrown shrubs that were crowding the house when we moved in. There are still a few more things to go in. I can't wait to see how it all looks next summer when everything's gotten into place and had time to live there for a while.

Secondly, the chair I ordered for the family room was delivered this morning. I'm so happy with it. It was a little overwhelming to look at chairs and choose one all by myself, but this is perfect. It fits the room size-wise, is comfortable, and will fit the color scheme I have in mind. The fabric is neutral but has a subtle paisley pattern.

Celia likes it too!

So here is what the tv sitting area of the family room looks like now.

There is so much more I want to do with this room, eventually. I want to lighten it up by giving the walls a fresh coat of paint and painting the trim white. This room gets less sun than the rest of the house, but a big step was made today in getting more sunlight because the third change happening here is that we're having lots of trees cut down! We've been excited about this because it's the first step toward renovating our lawn and outdoor space, and also toward getting more sun on the house. So far the trees in the back of the house are cut down, and we've already seen a big difference in the amount of light we get inside. The yard is going to be so much more open, too. It's been quite an experience seeing how they cut down very tall trees that are so close to (some hanging over) the house and the road. It's a big job with all kinds of ropes, pulleys, heavy machinery, and even some tree climbing.

We have very large trees in front of the house too, and I can't wait to see how much more space and light we have when everything is done. Also, if you've never seen (and heard, and felt!) a 4-story tall tree fall to the ground right outside your window, let me tell you it's quite an experience! It's actually been fascinating to watch.

I'm shocked that Celia is taking a nap right now, with all the noise going on outside. She must have been really tired today!

  1. Yeah for landscaping updates! We have debated about removing trees from out backyard because we don't get a lot of sun but it also keeps our house cool...decisions. I love that chair...it looks so comfortable.
