I hate bad storms. Regular old thunderstorms are okay, but the kind where they tell you to get in the basement immediately? Not ideal. Even worse is that we live in an area where tornado watches and warnings aren't uncommon in the summer. Tonight was the worst we've experienced since we've lived here. We were under tornado warnings from 4:00 to 8:00. A tornado watch I can handle. A warning? As in, there are actual tornadoes on the ground and the tornado-producing storms are headed our way? I felt a little panic this afternoon. Luckily I had made dinner ahead of time today, so when Chris got home just in front of the first storm we took our food, some books, and a video for Celia and headed to the basement. I made the mistake of glancing at the tv before I went down, and saw some scary looking damage not far away. So of course that made me freak out a little. I was not doing a good job of hiding my stress from Celia, but once we got her set up with her dinner and a video she was happy as a clam. It was something novel to her, and I wouldn't be surprised if she asked to do it again tomorrow night :).
So, we spent a few hours, on and off, like this:
 |
| Husband watching doppler. |
 |
| Pita watching videos. |
The tornado warnings seem to be over and I got Celia to bed a half hour late. I'm hoping she's so tired that she'll sleep right through the thunderstorms. We have more storms passing. Hopefully they'll end soon and we'll keep our electricity on. I don't want to go to bed until the storms are over and I know we have nothing to worry about. Bah! Tornadoes are for the birds.
OMG Sarah that is scary stuff! Yeah I don't do tornados well either! Isn't it funny how kiddos can since our anxiety? Kelcee has been really clingy to me the past few days and I just realized she sensed I am so stressed out from this medical stuff. How cute your little set up downstairs. For sure Pita will wanna do it again because it is different, new and fun LOL...they always like that. you are such a good mommy! I love how your hubs had the doppler up to keep track and I am so glad that ya'll had a basement to get into and that you all are safe! I will pray no more storms head your way! I remember when I was 14 we had a big tornado hit and it knocked our tree onto our neighbors house and some of the branches broke the windows in our basement that we were in and I have been so freaked about them ever since...
ReplyDeletehang in there tornadoes are for the birds Bah!!!!

Sums
Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteComing from someone who has lived in tornado alley her whole life, I can concur. Tornados are for the birds. I'm tired of them claiming lives. Possessions are one thing, but too many young children have died because of them this year...
ReplyDeleteSo glad you all have a basement, that is a blessing!
They're so scary, and even if they don't come that close, you still feel the wrath of the wind. I'm glad you all are safe!
