miscellany monday

Back on track with Miscellany Monday this week! Let's see what's been on my mind...

1) Snuggie season has commenced! On Saturday night I declared (in my head, since no one else would really give a hoot if I said it out loud) the start of Snuggie season and the first wearing of my Snuggie was glorious. It's so nice and chilly outside.

2) Speaking of the chills, here's the October picture on my calendar. Spooky.

3) I'd also like to present the outfit of the week:

In the excitement over the gloves, pants were forgotten. Also notice the abandoned doll in the background. Celia's parenting skills need some work.

4) I came upon a couple of 70% off racks at Carter's yesterday and couldn't resist getting Celia a few things. 18 month clothes are still big on her, but that means they should last all winter. So at 2 years, tiny Pita will still be in 18 month clothes :).

5) I also got a sweatshirt to complete Celia's Halloween costume. Here's a hint at what she's going to be:

6) We have some rainy weather in store this week. It looks like it will clear up by the end of the week, and I hope Saturday will be dry because I have a marathon to run!

7) The children's section at Barnes and Noble is the best place to people watch other parents. There's a play area with a train set, and every time we're there we see something worth talking about afterward. From parents who ignore bratty kids' horrible behavior to helicopter moms controlling every move their children make, you can see it all in one place. I've even seen a child steal a train and leave with it while his mother saw it happen and said nothing.

8) I tried my hand at making vegan ginger cookies yesterday. I got the recipe from Oh She Glows, here. One of my favorite sites. The dough was so good that it's lucky any ended up on the cookie sheet.

The finished cookies were a bit disappointing. I think it was my own fault because I didn't sift the flour and used the wrong ratio of flax:water for my flax egg. I also don't like the taste of Earth Balance or vegetable oils in baked goods. I can always taste it, and it gives things sort of an off taste. I'll have to try again another time.

9) I'm already thinking about what I'll do for exercise after the marathon. I won't have the time to run as extensively as I did all summer, so I'm thinking about playing around with shorter workouts and more speedwork and strength training. It will be nice to have the freedom to mix things up without worrying about a training program.

10) This is a busy week with a lot to do at work, logistics planning for the marathon (road closures, timing of activities, figuring out what my family should do for watching), a date with Dr. Dreamboat, and finally packing up and heading to CT for the marathon.
