beach day
Today was Chris's birthday, and he took the day off from work. Pita went to play at daycare for a few hours this morning. Chris made himself a fancy breakfast, we both got our runs in, and I got grocery shopping done.
After Celia's nap this afternoon we went to the beach! It was the first time this summer that we've all gone together. We went to a nice little town beach just a few minutes away. It's still very hot here, so swimming and playing in the water was great. Pita loves kicking and splashing in the water, and playing in the sand just at the water's edge. She also thinks she can swim, which is somewhat problematic. We cannot leave her for a second, because she tries to dive into the water head first and swim just like the big kids she sees. It was a fun and relaxing time for our little family, and such fun to watch Pita enjoying herself so immensely. I also got to sit and read my book for a few minutes while Celia and Chris were in the water, and gazed longingly at the moms with older kids who could sit and read while their children played by themselves in the water :). Fantastic.
Chris likes pie more than cake, so we had a birthday pie after dinner. I got Celia to bring Daddy into the kitchen for his pie and taught her to say "happy birthday". She only got the "happy" part, so she spend the evening saying "happy!" to her daddy and making her own little song out of it. We had a great day to end our long weekend.
