running, eating, exploding hoses. the usual.

Celia and I have the whole day together today. It's a little chilly outside, but I'm thinking about a trip to the playground this morning and then the library this afternoon. Pita has also been busy with some of her new toys. She loves the tunnel, and likes sharing and pretending to eat her new play food. I really like the food we got because it's pretty realistic and is all healthy food that she recognizes. She is going to love helping me outside with her new garden tools and watering can too. The other day I was working outside and Pita was sitting in the grass entertaining herself, and a lady walking by commented on what a good baby she was to sit there and play. It made me proud :).

Some other random things going on at our house:
  • A couple friends are running a road race at the end of May. I can't decide if I want to enter. It's a 5 miler, and I know I could run 5 miles but am afraid of what my time might be. I run a couple times a week at best, usually only 3 miles. So yesterday I ran 4 miles hovering around an 8:30-9:00 pace. Oh, except for the hill at the end of the run that's a half mile at about a 40 degree grade. There's no avoiding it because we live on top of said hill. It is so demoralizing. Anyway, the hill nearly killed me but on a flat course I think could run a decent 5-miler. Hmm…
  • My move closer to a vegan diet is just not happening right now. It makes me a little disappointed, but with a toddler and everything else in our busy lives I just don't have the time or the budget to plan and prepare separate meals for my family and myself. Chris isn't interested in the vegan thing, and I will not have Celia be vegetarian or vegan unless she makes the decision herself when she's older. I will teach her why I'm a vegetarian and she can decide. So, I'll continue with my vegetarian thing and make some meals vegan, which is a plan that's doable for our whole family. We eat vegetarian most of the time already. I'll still share the occasional vegetarian or vegan meal idea!
  • I've been getting ready to do more gardening. It's time to plant more flowers and herbs, and I need to give the grass a good weekly watering. This means using a hose. I stupidly left the hose nozzle attached to the hose all winter and now it's stuck on. So this morning I cut it off and attached a replacement part to the end. I was so proud of myself! I got the hose attached to our fancy new hose caddy and turned on the water. The water pressure blew the new part right off the hose, and the hose went crazy and attacked me. Big fat hose repair fail. Now I have to figure out if there's a way to do this or if a new hose is in order.
  • I've still been extremely tired. Starting to think it's allergies. Is this happening to anyone else?
This Weekend's To Do List:
- Homework. I don't have much time left for my online class and I am so far behind. I'm never doing this again!
- Drive to a location far from our hill and run a flat 4-5 miles.
- Get ready to head back to work on Monday! This week was vacation week. I have a feeling the rest of the school year will fly by :).

  1. Great pace! I am around the same pace, and for me? That's about how fast/good I'll get! You'll do awesome!

  2. Sarah, definitely go for the race! You'll be glad to get your "racing feet" wet again!! Just don't have unrealistic expectations of your time. Think of it as a warmup race. There is something really exciting about running races, with all those people and the energy! Would be fun to do a race together sometime... although you're a lot faster than me!
Other thing is I think Dave Sartory has been eating some vegan recipes recently. He has posted a couple of pics on facebook. At one point he posted this website that has recipes, they look really good but maybe a little time consuming: http://veganchef.com/ancientgrain.htm. Check it out when you get a chance.
Never knew the story of how you and Chris met, thats a great story!
ps - I finally bought Bon Ami yesterday! :)
    Happy Friday.......

  3. Thanks guys! I really should stop being a wimp and just go for it. I do need to be realistic and not expect an amazing time- just to finish the race! Emily it would be really fun to race together sometime!
