genius material

I have resisted doing this, but the time has come for one of those "my kid is a genius" posts. I'm well aware that most people think their kids are geniuses, and that's why I haven't wanted to take that path.

I didn't want those people to feel bad.

"What proof do you have?", you might ask. "To be frank, this does not look like a particularly bright child. She's up to her elbows in trash."

"Well," I might say, "Not only has she scored at the 98th percentile for language skills on the formal testing I've performed," (this is what happens when a speech pathologist has a baby...) "but now at the age of 14 1/2 months she is using 2-3 word phrases."

"Really?" you say, "Because she's holding that book upside down..."

Say all you want. All I know is that Chris and I have been shocked to hear our Tiny Pepita using 2-word phrases and imitating 2-3 words in the past few days. Tonight she and Chris were sitting near her bookshelf. She pointed to her Ten in the Bed book (you know the song- "ten in the bed and the little one said...") and she said "Roll over" to tell Chris which book she wanted! We gaped at each other with our mouths hanging open.

Then I called my parents to tell them what a genius their granddaughter is, while Chris started teaching her how to count cards.

Genius, I tell you!

  1. Heck yes, she is a genius! I love hearing tiny little ones talk big, it is such a hoot! My oldest? Couldn't do that at 26 months (of course we later found out that he had hearing probs due to his tonsils/adnoids) Don't fear- he has TOTALLY made up for it.
